After the death of his wife, he made his home with his son, Thomas Beauregard.  His last birthday was celebrated with a family reunion which was attended by sixty-three children and grandchildren.  He was spending the night with his son Daniel Jackson, with whom he planned a fishing trip for the next day, when he was seriously stricken ill and died August 19, 1912.  He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.  Burial was beside his wife in the Wildes Family Cemetery, three miles south of Reidsville.
