JESSE WILDES |
| Jesse Wildes, birth date
not yet established, but believed to be about 1826, was the son of
Maxey Millan
and Elizabeth Wilkinson Wildes.
It is not known whether Jesse was born in Tattnall County before his parents moved to Ware County or not. Neither is it known when he and his brother James went there to live, but records show that they married sisters living in that county and established homes there in 1849 and 1850. Jesse married Matilda Cowart on December 27, 1849. She was the daughter of William and Martha Cowart. Jesse and Matilda owned a farm and lived in the Cedar Creek Church Community near Collins, Georgia. Book 5z, page 181, Land Grant Records show: Jesse Wildes, of Tattnall County, received a grant of 364 acres of land in 1856. Land bounded by Dempsey Holland, Eason and Jarrell and B. Cowart. Jesse died in November of 1857 and is buried at Collins, Georgia. His widow later married Benjamin Davenport. She died in 1895 and is buried in an unmarked grave at Collins Baptist Church Cemetery. Jesse and Matilda had two children. |
